old newbie gamer seeks home.......

Submitted by weebaldy on 4 May 2008 - 11:15am.

hi guys

I am a old wrinkly ( wrong side of 50 :-)) gamer that likes wargames in general and have just started my first foray into boardgames by buying battlelore.

I am looking for a club/society that plays a nice mix of board and wagames and found you guys.

Just wondered if you are still around and if so if ya have space for an old grump :-)

if you are still playing hope to see ya all soon.

Hey Ray,

Glad to hear you're still gaming:.)

ELG is cool but I would recommend the
South East Scotland Wargames Club as the place to find the Old Guard, they meet at the Royal Navy and Marines Club
at Cannonmills every Thursday at 7pm to 11pm

Some of us go to both ELG and SESWC mind you:.)

Well, you missed out last night
as were playing Avlon Hill's History of the world
and we could have done with a fifth player to be honest

It was a good fun night though
hope you can make it sometime:.)

Cheers

History of the World is probably one of my top 5 boardgames. I love it. Pity I didn't know or I might have been tempted along..

Hi Liam,
there's a small group that play it every
now and then, John White and Donald (who used to
run the Games Gallery back in the day being two of them:.)

I'm not sure when they would be playing it next though
but they usually play a boardgame of some kind
(I even had them playing last night on earth:.)

Alan,

I REALLY enjoyed the SESWGC last night. However I am a bit embarresed as when I got home after meeting so many people I couldnt remember if you and I had actually met.

Thats sounds awful as it was you who introduced me to the club in the first place via this forum.

Anyways I was able to join the club and spent a great evening watching a game of battlelore and speaking to Jules and Jack.

Sorry for the senior moment if we did meet :-), put it down to old age and short attention span !!!

I am also going to pop along to ELG sometime to meet the guys there.

Thanks again for all the advice

Thanks for that Alan, when I was driving home I had the horrible thought that you may have been one of the guys playing Battlelore and I never introduced myself. I will be back at the club on the 5th July so maybe se ya then.

Do you know what board games and RPG's are played in the club, I have battlelore, Descent ( plus all expansions), Wings of war and hope to get Tide of Iron and Arkham Horror very soon.

Hi,
pretty much all sorts really
(just depends what people buy:.)

I have played that funky german Ameoba game, History of the world, wings of war (very popular at the moment) Last night on earth etc and seen Zombies, munchkin and all sorts of games really

Oh, RPG,s
not tmany unfortunately
that old rift between "serious" wargamers and roleplayers still exists it seems
but Dragonquest is played a lot
and I hope to run a traveller game this year sometime

Thanks again Alan

I have posted a thread on the SESWGC about maybe running a game of Descent from FFG. I like the idea if this kind of very light RPG to Board games Hybrid so maybe that would fit OK witn the guys that attend.

Cya soon
