After what seems to be a bit of a rollercoaster of a year and a bit I'm finally starting to get back into gaming. A group of friends have established an informal gaming club which meets once a month. we've hacked our way through a number of board and card games but next week promises to be interesting as it's our first RPG session.

Some of you will know of my love/loath relationship with France and all of its contents. I've only a couple of incidents to justify to loathing but my god are they good at creating games. I feel this comes down to a single word ... commitment. I just love the efforts they put into things. the two prime examples are Mechanical dream RPG and Confrontation (no, not the latest one, i mean the 3rd one). To this I can now add a third flagship.

Hell-Dorado - website [1]
Released in 2006 this Historofantasy(it's a word!) skirmish game revels in the conquest of the New World ... where the new world is Hell. The gameplay is quite slick and the minis have to be seen to be believed, especially the Glutton demons... The English fan base is mirroring the enthusiasm that was brought to bear on Confrontation when it first appeared and this has resulted in the release of the "official" English rules.

Very much in the vein of Confrontation and Dark-age (meant extremely positively) I think this will be one to watch for 2008-09. if for no other reason that the RPG value of the minis

Just bought:
Field of Glory: Historical wargame by Osprey. Full colour excellent production but at first glance you need a degree in quantum maths to decipher the rules. targeting the historical crowd who play DBA and DBM. it is not for the faint of heart. I have a few historical minis so I'm going to give it a bash and see what the fuss is about.

Alpha Omega: This RPG has one of the best marketing gimmicks. Start here [4] and work your way through.

Dark-Age Starter Sets: Forsaken, Brood and Skarrd boxed sets. between 5 to 8 minins per set. Good stuff

Currently Playing/Reading:

  1. Wargames - Anima tactics, Infinity and Metropolis
  2. RPG: Reqium for Rome, Dark heresy and Alpha Omega
  3. Board: Talisman,
  4. Card: Infernal contraption

Currently Painting:
Corpse cart from GW, Anima tactics backlog and started my GD entries.
