Cities of Germany

So me and my equal (I pay half the bills and everything) half are thinking about going away for christmas and we've settled on visiting Germany for all the christmas markets, beer and curling up in front of warm fires.

But as to which city we are a bit confused, we've found direct flights from Edinburgh to Munich, Dortmund, Cologne and Frankfurt. However knowing very little about any German city I thought I'd ask here if anyone has been to any of these places or someone else in Germany that they'd recommend.

Dortmund is probably a bit too industrial to be particularly Xmassy, Frankfurt is huge as I recall but I only ever went down there once so cant tell you much I'm afraid.

Dusseldorf is big, modern and a real competitor with it's neighbour Cologne, you could do both of those together easily and would not be disapointed. If you are into religious stuff and all that then Cologne Cathedral is a must see. Both those towns are cool.

Bielefeld is a beatiful medieval city but ask any German and they will tell you it doesnt exist (don't ask)
claim to fame is that it sits astride the Teutoburger Wald where Varus lost his legions, the Hermann the German statue is nearby too:.)
I like Bielefeld

Never been to Munich but I hear that it's good for the beer:.)
