Hi Friends,
I picked my copy of Aces and Eights up today from the shop and got to say that its one of the best looking new games I have seen in a long time (review coming soon), and a game I would love to run as soon as possible.
Aces and Eights is a wild west roleplaying system from Kenzer and Company with a unique combat system and looks set to be one of the best wild west games ever (if it can beat OGL Wild West I will be really happy :D)
The title comes from the hand that Wild Bill Hickok (James Butler) was holding when he was shot dead, just in case you are wondering.
I am planning on running a few sample games in the shop perhaps on a Tuesday or Thursday evening so if anyone is interested either post a reply comment, mail me or call in and have a chat.

This sounds like an interesting game, but I am worried by the alternative history aspect of the game setting. These often don't come off very well, and the reality is usually far more interesting anyway.
Does the rulebook give you the real history of the west along with their alternative history, or is it Alt.History all the way?
And the combat system sounds a bit like the system from Millenniums End, where you put a plastic overlay, with hit locations and numbers on it, on top of an outline of a figure, and your die roll matches up with one of the numbered locations. Is it in any way similar, or have I picked up the wrong end of a different stick?
Anyway, if I can be convinced that the game is better than the superb Boot Hill from those cowpokes at TSR, then I may have to mosey on over and pick up a copy.

I haven't had a chance to go through the background but I'll try and get a chance this weekend and answer your questions regarding that.
As for the system my memories of Millenium's End are a bit hazy but there are similarities with the overlays. When you shoot at someone you roll to hit, if you fail then you use the overlay to determine where the bullet goes. So if you aim at someone's hand and miss then there's a risk you'll bean them in the face instead.
As for Boot Hill I've always got the impression that the guys at Kenzer & Co are huge fans of it and I expect you won't be disappointed with Aces & Eights because of that.

...I'd love to play. I picked up a copy myself and it does look fantastic. The combat system looks to be pretty snappy and gritty (which I like) and the wealth of setting material is astonishing too.
Add to that high production values, a low price point (£27 for a 400 page full colour glossy hardback with a leatherette cover is not expensive at all) and gorgeous artwork and this is one of the best looking games around at the moment.
