Week 3 - The Little Feckers - part 1

First off I have one of those MSN things. It is . Feel free to ignore/abuse...

Back in Lahndan again but this is a fairly easy week and work goes... sort of... I think I’m still recovering from my friends birthday on Saturday (Hello Damien!... Ghowel!). Kicked off in the Pear tree moved to the Nile valley (excellent food but it's BYOB). We were a few pints in by that stage and it took us ages to find enough coordination to get the booze sorted. Great night for all but ended up drinking Laphroaig and Sapporo, not in same glass, and getting a massive hangover.

Surfing the inter-webnet of an evening I'm encouraged by the amount of miniatures games or "little Fecker Systems" as Son' calls them that are either available already or hitting the shelves in the near-ish future; if you agree/disagrre or have recommendations for other miniature games please let me/everyone know!

Infinity by the conquistadors of Corvus Belli. Hailing from sunny Pontevedra (you killed my father, prepare to die) these chaps have created a fairly solid system which, while not hugely ground breaking is innovative enough not to be classed as a reinvention of the wheel. The figures however are the best I've seen and are easily the best sci-fi minis available. They even give the Rackham metals a run for their money and wipe the floor with the AT-43 plastics. The English beta test rules and army lists are freely available and can be found here, check out the gallery here. You'll be delighted you did if only for the mono-wheeled motorbikes of the unfortunately named Kum motorised troops...

After putting together 2 forces and having a bash I can heartily recommend it. It takes a while to get the hang of the counters/order things though...

Secondly is Rezolution: Dark Tomorrow. while this game has been on release for a yearish it recently had a face lift and IMO is vastly superior. Gone are the clunky sculpts and unflattering paint jobs to be replaced with Slick, aggressive looking minis with top quality colours. The background has remained the same and that's a good thing since it's a clever mix of the shadowrun/cyberpunk and western genres. Excellent handling of an Alien races mindset and integration aslo make this a bit special. Game play is fast and use of stat cards keeps everything flowing. With the re-release of the faction box sets and the larger starter set this is definitely one to watch...

Checkout the quick start rules here. I know that Liam has a couple of starter boxes in the shop. These include a CD with printable scenery, rosters etc... a bit gimmicky but it works for the game.

The final entrant in this part is Dark-age a game inspired by the outstanding artwork of BROM. The game's setting is suitably post-disasterish low-tech and has some of the best colour/flavour text you find in mini games out there at the mo. The game itself plays quite quickly, the rules are clean and clear but aren't really anything special. That said as it epitomises the concept of "keeping it simple" it is very stable and enjoyable.
It's the factions and troop types that first attracted me to it. The sculptors have done a good job of capturing the anatomy of Brom's style and the painters have more than captured the imagery. just take a look a the Artwork and Miniature for Grist.
The core rulebook Dark-Age: Genesis has been released and the first supplement Dark-Age: Evolution isn't to far behind. It seems that they intend to follow in the same model as Warmachine rules releases. I for one hope they are as successful. the Quick start rules can be found here and the associated army lists are here

I've played a fair few games of dark-age as its evolved over the last couple of years and i'm currently trying to persuade BLG to get some stock in. It's a good game and I would like an opponent or two more... As a brief aside the Brom-ster's skill with ink and paint is self taught... swine.
