The Science Museum Smart Toy awards have awarded best Smart game and Ultimate Smart toy award to Polarity. If no one's ever played it it's a game where you balance magnets on the magnetic fields created by you and your opponent. Apparantly it's good enough to be recognised by a whole host of scientific types as well as their big playtesting group of kids (who got to sleepover in the science museum which sounds like so much fun!).
It's also a damn good game, next time you're in the shop ask for a demo and see what you think.

I adore this game, recommended to anyone looking for an abstract game that is a little (by little I mean very) different. I have noticed that some people get into it really quick, and some find it impossible. As with many abstract games, the person who has played it morewill often win. There is probably some game theory pish there, but I have no idea.
You also get to feel all smug when you place that 'impossible to place' piece...
Damn you Skeggs for gettin me into the game and making me spend my money on a copy...
Oh, best I have managed is on a stack of five... only once, and then someone opened the door and it all went wrong.

My work here is done. Now onto JUNGLE SPEED!!!!
I will be at FAQ next week most likely if it is currently running.
Cheers

See, I got this game into the shop because it sounded like fun. And Skeggs saw it at GenCon last year and recommended it. And I did Astrophysics and am a science geek who loves magnets. Did I mention that I love magnets?
This game is great fun. It takes a game or 2 to learn how to balance the magnets properly, but hey, thats part of the fun. I really enjoyed playing it and Iain, Lucy and myself did spend a couple of weeks seeing who could balance pieces against the highest stack in the shop. I blame the fan in the corner for me only being able to balance it on a stack of 3 pieces ;)
Give it a try, and you'll start to enjoy it as much as we all do. This is definitely a shop favourite.

Be it ever so humble, there's no place like my shop :)
